Timeline
of relevant SDG Targets for the Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure SDG goal.
2022
Enabling infrastructure work begins on a new rapid mass transit system to transform the movement of people across the city
2025
Digital exclusion in social housing is ended through the accessibility of affordable and ultrafast broadband
Digital exclusion must also be ended by making information online more accessible to those with disabilities and language barriers, particularly from national and local government. Digital exclusion must be seen as a multi-faceted issue, not just through lack of physical access.
2032
Significantly increase the proportion of residents who feel confident using the internet to connect with and keep in contact with friends and family
Since the start of lockdown in 2020, arguably many more people have been forced to increase their confidence online, particularly communicating with friends and family. However, women are still more likely to be digitally excluded due to poverty, language barriers or coercive control in relationships.
BWV Actions: Working in collaboration with the Women's Commission and other women's groups in Bristol examine the root causes of digital exclusion to come up with holistic solutions.
2034
Completion of all four mass transit links to Bristol Airport, North Fringe, East Fringe, Bristol to Bath to transform movement of people across the city
On any mass transit system, access must be ensured for disabled people and women with buggies.
2041
No older people in Bristol are digitally excluded, but make use of digital technologies, activities and information to support healthy, happy lives
While no one should be digitally excluded in Bristol, it is important that people still have options, as older women have expressed not an inability to access digital forms, but rather an unwillingness to do so (Bristol Women's Voice 2020).
2043
Infrastructure is completed to ensure fast and sustainable access from Bristol to major road and rail networks across the South West
Public transport is highly gendered in the way people use it, and when planning new efficient and sustainable transport this must be taken into account. For example women are far more likely to get the bus, while men are more likely to get the train and public expenditure is heavily weighted towards rail lines.
BWV Action: Work with the Women's Commission to ensure that women are being consulted in all major transport decisions, and that the decision makers are not made up of solely white men.
2050
Bristol is well-connected with transport that is efficient, sustainable, inclusive and accessible; supporting vibrant independent local neighbourhoods and a thriving city centre
